Safekids Privacy Statement (Home Safety Programme)

Safekids Aotearoa is part of Health New Zealand.

Safekids runs a Home Safety Programme (the Programme) which provides home safety equipment to help whānau keep tamariki safe at home. ACC funds the Programme as part of its work to reduce preventable injuries in the community.

Safekids Aotearoa works with community-based organisations (Partners) to help identify whānau with tamariki and who may need home safety equipment to keep their tamariki safe. Partners engage with whānau to complete assessments so the right equipment can be provided for tamariki.

As they complete an assessment, Partners collect information about you and your whānau to understand what safety equipment might be needed.

That information is used by Safekids Aotearoa and Health New Zealand to help deliver the Programme.

As the funder, ACC also collects some information about you and your whānau in the assessment. This information includes the street name and number and the age and ethnicity of people living at the address the assessment was completed at. ACC does not receive any information about the names of the whānau at that address.

ACC uses this information to compare injury claim rates for whānau in the Programme with claim rates for similar households and areas where the Programme is not available. This helps ACC understand the value and impact of the Programme.

Health New Zealand, Safekids Aotearoa and ACC will not use any of the information collected in an assessment for any other purpose than those described in this Privacy Statement. They will not share any of the information collected in the assessment with anyone else unless they are required or allowed to by law.

You can choose not to have your personal information collected by ACC. If you choose not to share your information with ACC, you can still receive home safety equipment and take part in the Programme. If you want to opt out, please tell us.

You can ask to see the personal information held about you. You can also ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
