Anaesthesia - paediatric cardiac heparin dosing

Non-bypass

  • MBTS, some coarctation repairs
    Usual dose is 1mg/kg (100u/kg)
    Check with surgeon before giving
  • ECMO
    Usual dose before running onto ECMO is 0.5mg/kg (50u/kg)
    Check with surgeon before giving

Bypass

  • ACT goal >450sec (>650sec if using aprotinin)
  • Dose
    < 4 weeks: 5mg/kg (500u/kg)
    4 weeks - 12 months: 4mg/kg (400u/kg)
    > 12 months: 3mg/kg (300ukg)
