If your local specialist (not your doctor or GP) has referred
your child to a specialist at Starship, you may be entitled to
financial assistance towards your travel and, possibly, your
accommodation costs. Your specialist will need to approve
accommodation and any specialised transport needs.
Transport and accommodation assistance relates to the patient
(child) and one support person (a parent or caregiver).
There is a Ministry of Health pamphlet which sets out the
eligibility criteria for the scheme and explains how to go about
making a claim. For further information, see the Ministry of Health website.
