Whanau Liaison, Starship and Ronald McDonald House Charities®
We are seeking a positive, enthusiastic and adaptable person to join our friendly and helpful team at our Auckland Domain Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) to work with whānau as a Whānau Liaison. This is a new collaborative role between Starship, ADHB and RMHC.
RMHC supports whānau with a child in hospital away from home. Our programmes take care of the practical things in life so whānau can focus on their child. Simply, we give whānau with a hospitalised child what they need most — each other.

In the Whānau Liaison role you will be responsible for providing initial and on-going support to whānau with high needs, alongside Family Support staff, helping whānau to navigate through their stay at RMHC throughout the course of their child’s stay at Starship.
You will also provide an educational function, helping to up-skill RMHC Family Support staff with an increased knowledge on social supports available to whānau, along with counselling and communication skills.
This role has a strong emphasis on advocating for whānau through their child’s hospital journey. You will act as kaitakawaenga and work closely with Starship Social Work and the RMHC Family Support team.
We are looking for:
A professional qualification - minimum undergraduate level or equivalent
A self-starter with sound interpersonal skills
Understanding of the complexities and impact of health needs for the child and their whānau
A professional, friendly and enthusiastic attitude
An ability to work both independently and collaboratively to the highest standards
Excellent relationship management skills
You to hold a valid full drivers licence
This position is fixed term, part-time (25 hours per week) working in the afternoon/ evenings.
