James Harris, MD, is a Developmental Neuropsychiatrist at Johns Hopkins with expertise especially in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Intellectual Disability and Autism. He was on the DSM-5 committee that wrote the new definitions for these 3 conditions and the other Neurodevelopmental disorders. The newest of these is social (pragmatic) communication disorder. He was the chief author of the new definition of intellectual disability that, for the first time, incorporates a definition of intelligence in the definition. He was US liaison to WHO with the ICD-11 committee to harmonize the naming in the 2 classifications. Jim has 2 books with Oxford University Press titled Intellectual Disability. One is for parents and non-medical professionals.
