Pork Pie's Amazing Success
20.04.2009 | After months of careful planning the Whangarei MINI Owners Group have completed their spectacular road trip retracing the route of the iconic kiwi movie.
Joined by 37 teams, each pledging to raise money for Starship, the run took place over Easter beginning in Kaitaia and finishing in Invercargill – just as it did in the 1981 film.
A staggering $116,000 has been raised from the event and will be put towards two Tissue Oxygen Monitors for Starship's Intensive Care Unit which treats critically ill children from around the country. These monitors measure essential oxygen levels in the brain, kidney and digestive tract helping medical staff to keep a close watch on patient's vital oxygen levels during surgery and to determine the correct course of treatment.
This is by far one of the biggest and most national community fundraising events that Starship has been part of and we'd like to send a huge congratulations to all the participants for all the amazing work they've done.
Event Convener Rod Harris, a former teacher at a local Whangarei school can't believe the strength of support for the national children's hospital.
Starship Foundation would also like to thank MINI New Zealand, ZM and MTV for all their support of this event. |
