Ruby's Giving a Helping Hand
02.12.2008 | Cancer survivor Ruby Seeto is once again selling her unique designer tea towels to raise money to support the rebuild of Starship's cancer ward.
The 11 year old Ellerslie girl is hoping to raise a similar amount of money as she did for Koru Care Trust last year by selling the tea towels she has personally designed.
Ruby had major surgery in October 2006 to remove a 1.6kg tumour from her liver; she was subsequently diagnosed with a very rare undifferentiated sarcoma of the liver, and began 12 months intensive chemotherapy treatment at Starship.
Last year Ruby designed a tea towel to sell in support of Koru Care Trust who took her to Disneyland with other children struggling with illness.
A limited run of Ruby's 2008 design has been screen-printed onto a 100% cotton tea towel, then rolled and tied with an organza bow with the help of Ruby's classmates.
The $10 tea towels are already selling out thanks to supportive customers from St Michael's School, Rotary Club of Newmarket, St Cuthbert's College, Friends of Starship Christmas Cracker House Tour, Pasta Italia Café in Parnell and close friends.
It has now been 12 months since Ruby's chemotherapy treatment ended. Her family thought her energy and concentration levels would be low for a while but are thrilled at how quickly and eagerly she has returned to normal everyday life.
Ruby's family would like to thank her fantastic oncologist Ruellyn Cockcroft and the wonderful staff at Starship. |
