Starship February Tax Appeal

Over the past few years, pressure on all areas of Starship's care has increased - but most especially on our national Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. Unfortunately, the demand on this unit means that it is struggling to accomodate patients needing High Dependency care - resulting in a gap in Starship's 'best possible care' ethos.
The children who are mainly affected by this gap are those who come to Starship with an acute condition (like asthma) which makes them too sick for a general ward but not critical enough for Intensive Care. Yet these small patients need to be closely looked after. Sometimes that care has to happen in our Emergency Department or, being treated in an Intensive Care bed which may be needed for another 'life or death' admission at the very same time.
The answer is creating, with your help, a new High Dependency Unit.
Ten year old Isaac Webster had firsthand experience of the current shortfall.
Issac has suffered from severe asthma since he was born prematurely. And last year's unusually cold weather and high humidity meant that Isaac suffered one of his most severe attacks in years.
On one weekend Isaac's constant monitoring had to be done over many hours in Starship's Emergency Department. As you can imagine, this was not ideal.
The new High Dependency Unit requires six beds - each one being fully equipped at a cost of $75,000. Essentials range from really expensive items like the complex individual bedside monitors filled with the most extraordinary life saving technology, down to something as simple and vital as an oxygen flowmeter costing $135.
Whatever your contribution it will make an important difference. And with tax time almost here you can benefit too!
