Friends of Starship
The Friends of Starship began in 1990 in response to the need for equipment that fell outside the hospital budget. An enthusiastic band of women joined together to organise community fundraising events, with all proceeds going towards Starship.
Over the years, the Friends have raised over $1 million for the hospital, contributing towards or completing the purchase of the CT Scanner, Bi-Plane X-Ray Machine, and the Jackson Operating Table to name but a few of the larger pieces.
Our Friends come from all walks of life, driven by a desire to help make the impossible possible for New Zealand’s sickest children. There are two committees operating presently – one that covers Central Auckland and the Eastern Suburbs, the other covers the North Shore. Our focus continues to be on community events, with the ever-popular Bag Ladies Brunch, Christmas Cracker House Tour and Melbourne Cup events pulling in the numbers – both supporters and funds!
If you think you’ve got the same enthusiasm, drive and positive attitude that our Friends have, and would like to make a difference, then we would love to hear from you. Please call one of us below to see how you can help.
