Supporting Starship

We have so many needs and there are so many
ways you can help us make the impossible
possible for children's health.

Bequests

The daily challenges for Starship patients and staff are enormous.  That’s why we are so grateful when someone leaves a donation to the Starship Foundation.

Making a Will is the only way to ensure your wishes are met in relation to the distribution of your assets.  A Will also helps to avoid confusion over your intentions and gives you peace of mind.  It’s the last opportunity you have to express your appreciation and love to your family members and your favourite charities.

Types of Bequests
Your solicitor or trustee company can give you more information, but in general there are three major types of bequests.

Specific Bequests are gifts of particular articles of property, such as houses or land, shares, cars, furniture, jewellery, books etc. given to a particular person or organisation.

General Bequests are usually sums of money or percentages of value of your estate given to persons or organisations.

Residual Bequests are what is remaining of your estate after the specific and general bequests have been distributed.  For example, you may leave residual bequests to your family, friends, or an organisation such as a registered charity.  In your Will you can nominate how this is to be divided.

Leaving a gift to Starship Foundation
By leaving a bequest to Starship Foundation you are enabling us to improve and expand upon the health services provided to more than 100,000 children each year at Starship Children’s Health.  For some people, giving through their estate is the only time they will be able to give a significant gift to an organisation which may have helped them or someone they know during their lifetime.

Download a Bequest Form with the suggested wording we recommend in leaving a gift to Starship Foundation.

Adding a Codicil
If you have an existing Will and wish to alter it in order to leave a bequest, all you need to do is make an amendment called a codicil.  To add a codicil, download the Codicil Form and take it to your solicitor.

The Starship Foundation can benefit from either a specific bequest or a bequest from your residuary estate (ie what remains after you’ve made other specific bequests).  All gifts are treated with confidentiality but we welcome the opportunity to thank you during your lifetime and appreciate knowing your intentions when your Will is complete.
